This is a photo of the original rug, hooked circa 1875-1885.
I first saw this rug advertized, as an antique rug for sale, in a 1920 Antiques Magazine. It was pictured in black and white and said "Antiques on Peaceable Street South Salem, Westchester County, New York." I was pleasantly surprised to find it, in color, in American Hooked and Sewn Rugs Folk Art Underfoot by Joel and Kate Kopp.
