This is a photo of the original rug, hooked circa 1900.
Two large, red hearts on a warm background, surrounded by a striped border with smaller hearts. Black and grey outlines all of the hearts. This would be easy to hook and color plan, with the only colors being a light or medium background that is also used in the stripes in the border, a faded red for the hearts and the center stripe in the border and a dark black and grey for the outlines and border stripes. You could take it to another level and use textured wools!
