This block, from the Reconciliation Quilt, shows a sailor leaning against an anchor while the American Flag flies behind him. A large flower, with leaves, sprouts from the corner. He seems to be standing on a whale bone with hearts. The original Reconciliation Quilt, by Lucinda Ward Honstain, dated Nov. 18th 1867 is one of the most extraordinary pictorial album quilts known. It depicts events and life of the Union after the Civil War.
