This is the original rug, hooked circa 1885. This is a wonderful horse, obviously loved by the maker. It sits on a background of different patches of color, surrounded by fall leaves and the letters L.B.J. It is finished by a border of hit and miss triangles. Perfection! This is an adaption of the original rug. The original can be seen in the book American Hooked and Sewn Rugs by Joel and Kate Kopp. I was drawn to this rug by the colors, the large horse and the fall leaves. One of my Favorites!
