This block, from the Reconciliation Quilt, shows a freed slave woman smoking a pipe, doing the wash in a barrel while a man peddles his wares with dogs and a chicken at their feet. The original Reconciliation Quilt, by Lucinda Ward Honstain, dated Nov. 18th 1867 is one of the most extraordinary pictorial album quilts known.
