This is a photo of the original, yarn sewn rug, dated 1842.
Oversized flowers and buds , in the center of the rug, are as large as the flanking apple and oak trees. The bird in the tree is as large as the cow. A pig eats an acorn as large as his head and a sheep eats a leaf larger than his head. The dark brown background is faded to a cocoa brown, in places. The undulating flower vine, in the border is a soft, golden tan. The simple colors of faded reds, mossy greens, sage greens, browns, and golden tan attracted me to this yarn sewn rug. It would be fun to try and hook this with hand dyed yarns.
