This is a photo, of the center of a rug hooked circa 1900.
This design started out as a room size rug, with this being the center portion. A wreath of acorns and oak leaves surround the large center star with smaller stars. At each end there are small pots of acorns and in the corners are more fallen oak leaves. I love the earthy colors in this rug. The reddish brown acorns, pots, outlines on the leaves and stars balances the rug perfectly. The different values of greens, from the lightest green in the leaves and the darkest green in the veins of the leaves. This is a simple color plan, with rusty brown, light green, medium green and dark green. This design is timeless!
