This is a photo of the original rug hooked circa 1840. This rug is considered to be one of the earliest, existing examples of rug hooking. The central motif looks like a flower until you look closer and see the patriotic shield, hooked in red white and blue. It was one of the most important rugs in the C.M. Traver collection. This is very suitable for wide cuts, with the large simple motifs.
