This is a photo of the original rug hooked and sheared circa 1840-1850.
There are large rose like flowers and multi-colored flowers with circles. The leaves are large and scroll like with wonderful shades of mossy and golden greens ending with a strappy flower that carries color to the ends of the rug. The smaller leaves repeat the wonderful deep red, in their veins. All this on a soft green background and a simple border of stripes. For me, the leaves take the show!
